Bonus Day in Ushuaia

Today was sort of a bonus day in Ushuaia that included packing up and all but 5 of us having to change hotels because they couldn't accommodate us all due to the strike. The hotel we moved to is about 3 blocks away and a sister hotel to the first one so all is well. Most of the day has been on our own walking the streets of Ushuaia and tonight is our farewell dinner.

Photos are mostly shots from the streets or our hotel window but at the end, there is a photo of fresh lamb being delivered to Ushuaia restaurants for grilling on spits, then a visit to a memorial to Evita - please note that Evita's bust is bronze and Juan Perrone's is not!. Finally, signs of beginning protests related to the strike. The sign is from the Truckers Union of Terra Fuego and reads (google translated)

"Damned to be the one on our side who pretends to be a bell ringer but in the hour of decision has to stab us in the back"

I believe that they are referring to the new government that was recently voted in with promised to help the common people who are struggling with the 200% inflation in Argentina.

Tomorrow we return to Buenos Aires with a 12:30pm flight that should arrive around 4 or 4:30pm...just so we can return to Ushuaia on January 29th for our trip to Antarctica! We have the OATS travel insurance so they can't let us be on our own here apparently but arriving early in Buenos Aires doesn't seem to be a problem. Go figure!!
