Pesos, Dollars, and 200% Inflation

We're up at 4am to pack for our flight to El Calafate and I just thought of something to make sure I blog before leaving Buenos Aires and that is the 200% inflation they have in Argentina. They just elected a new more conservative government and there are mixed thoughts as to how that will go. Interestingly, almost everything here is in both pesos and dollars with dollars being preferred. Our host last night said that the only thing pesos are good for is blowing your nose or wiping a part of your body! Our group leader warned us to not get too many pesos since you can't get them changed back into dollars! Banks simply won't take them back! Our host last night also shared that if you are lucky enough to buy an apartment or house, it must be paid in cash and in dollars! Can you imagine if we had to have paid our entry fee into Mirabella with cash dollars?? Many Argentineans don't think they will ever be able to afford their own flat or house.

There is more that I may add on later but it is something worth mentioning since everyone here talks about the worthlessness of the peso! More to come!
